Fuck Your Religious Conscience, Cardinal - You're Nothing But A Hypocrite Anyway!

This wicked man, Cardinal Archbishop Cormac Murphy O'Connor, joined together with other religious leaders in the UK to try to blackmail the UK Government into granting an exemption from the law "on the [alleged] grounds of widely held religious conviction and conscience."

Despite the fact that our Illustrious Leader, El Presidente Tony "Baloney" Blair wanted to give in to his wife's spiritual leader, the majority of his Cabinet colleagues were able to force him to stand up to the spurious special pleading of both Cherie and 'Cormac The Barbarian'!

Under
the Equality Act, due to come into effect in England, Wales and Scotland in April, it will be illegal for discrimination in the provision of goods, facilities and services on the basis of sexual orientation. However,Catholic adoption agencies claimed that this would stop them discriminating against potential adopters who were homosexual, and that forcing them to treat homosexuals as equals was contrary to their religious convictions. They then threatened to close all their adoption agencies if they were going to be forced to deal with homosexual applicants, but had the temerity to claim that their actions were in the best interests of the children!

What these duplicitous and mendacious hypocrites failed to point out, is that the act does allow them to discriminate on the grounds of their religious convictions BUT, and it is a big 'but', if they did so, the Exchequer would no longer fund them with public money. And that is the real, and only issue. They want the public to underwrite financially their ignorant homophobia, and threaten, like some spoilt child who is losing the game, to take their ball back unless they are allowed to win.

Tonight, despite much vacillation, Tony Baloney finally announced that these ignorant religious bigots and hypocrites would not get their way:

"There is no place in our society for discrimination. That's why I support the right of gay couples to apply to adopt like any other couple.

And that way there can be no exemptions for faith-based adoption agencies offering public funded services from regulations that prevent discrimination."

There is a sting in the tail, however. Tony has allowed his Catholic cronies nearly 2 years exemption from the new law, on the ostensible grounds that it will enable them to transfer their skills and knowledge to other, non-discriminatory adoption agencies, but I suggest that the real reason is so that they can be given more opportunity to marshal the forces of ignorance and religious bigotry in yet another attempt to force through their vile special pleading.

Frankly, these people are no better than any other sick religious terrorists that plagues our societies, and the sooner that all religion is consigned to the rubbish bin of history, the better.

Nicely argued piece. The plot thickens though. This man's organisation is now threatening that this legislation and their lack of exemption therefrom will "affect all of their charitable work". More blackmail. So no surprise there - like you said they have not given up.

BTW did you know that they have no objections to placing children with singe homosexuals? Their problem is with ga couples! Maybe they think they know enough about single gay men and their behaviour from their in-house wealth of gay priests?

In any case this is just another brick in the wall of ignorance that these religious maniacs continue to erect and patch. Oh and yes, do not forget that the Anglican communion is backing their ridiculous and illogical calls for exemption.

Of course the real issue, as you well know, has nothing to do with their so-called religious beliefs qua religion; it is simply that their power over others is being called into question, and that is what religion is all about.

Hence the recent rapprochement between the leaders of the papes, the proddies, and those of the rag-headed paedophile. What they fear most is simply losing their power and control over their respective followers. After all, it's only their credulous and ingnorant followers who actually believe the crap these people spout - that is, if anyone believes it at all.

Regarding the Catholic church's latest blackmail attempt - to withdraw from all charitable work - should they do so, there is an argument for claiming that they should no longer qualify for the favourable tax exempt status that they currently enjoy, and that would hit the bastards hard in the pocket.

Why should we fund these parasites anyway?

Your last point is piquant - I have never understood how any moneygrubbing little "religious" order could qualify as a charity - rather an oxymoron I have always thought

The sad thing is, that even if the stop their other charitable work, they will still be considered to be a charity, since activities for the advancement of religion count on their own grounds.

How so master? Do we have a theist state? Or is capitalism for some reason well disposed to religious lunacy?

Because the Victorians who originally set up the Charities Commissioners claimed that any work for the advancement of religion was de facto 'charitable', and all succeeding legislation has kept up this fiction.

Correction, that should read 'Charity Commission' - and their website can be found here.
